America Imports More Than 2/3 of Our Oil

One Election, Two Very Different Views About Energy Independence:

Had enough? Join the Cornyn Team now!

Rick Noriega’s Plan:

The Midland Reporter-Telegram reported: “Noriega said Tuesday that America should not try ‘to drill our way out of this problem’ of soaring gasoline prices but instead rely on Iraqi oil and alternative energy sources.” (Campbell, 6/25/08)

Yes, you read that right. Rick Noriega wants to increase our dependence on foreign energy sources. In explaining his “plan”, Noriega wants us to rely on a country that he claimed for a year is in a “civil war” and insisted that U.S. troops immediately withdraw from Iraq. In summary, Rick Noriega wants us to leave Iraq immediately but expects Iraqi oil reserves will help solve this Energy crisis.

Stand By Your Convictions?

Once Texans around the state heard about this bizarre “plan”, Noriega claimed he had been joking. Yet despite the bizarre nature of Noriega’s remarks, he repeated them during three other campaign appearances in the Permian Basin – which included a press conference in Odessa and at a meeting with the Midland Democrats. The San Antonio Express-News stated that throughout the day “Noriega repeated his call for exploiting Iraq’s oil.” (Ratcliffe, 6/27/08)

So this troubling and unbelievable explanation by Noriega begs the question: which is worse, Rick Noriega’s Energy “plan” or his failure to own up to it?

The Cornyn Plan:

We need someone who can provide serious leadership. By using common sense and working together, we can solve big problems.

Senator Cornyn is working hard to achieve national energy independence from foreign sources. In very simple terms: Senator Cornyn proposes exploring all viable alternative sources including wind, solar, nuclear, coal, geothermal and more.

While those alternative sources are being perfected, it is vital to our nation’s security that we explore here. This includes opening up ANWR and the outer continental shelf for exploration and drilling. Senator Cornyn also adamantly opposes Democratic proposals to tax, sue and regulate our way out of our energy dependence, which is essentially, an empty plan.
