Cows 2

Today, Texans for John Cornyn updated its fifth television ad of the 2008 election cycle. “Cows 2” highlights Senator Cornyn’s historic bipartisan Open Government legislation and his drive to bring more Texas sunshine to Washington.

The ad features the same picturesque landscape of Beeville, Texas that was featured in the original “Cows” ad released last week. It highlights Senator Cornyn’s philosophy of government—based on principles put forward by our Founding Fathers—that a democracy depends upon a fully informed citizenry, and open government is the cornerstone of any free society. With Senator Leahy, Senator Cornyn authored the landmark Open Government Act of 2007 which made the most significant reforms to the Freedom of Information Act in its history.

The ad also decries Washington’s persistent failure to address problems before they snowball into a full blown crisis and we are left with only bad choices.

“Cows 2” Script:

John Cornyn voice over: What disappoints me about Washington is how much is done behind closed doors.
Nothing moves unless there’s a crisis.
They block reform and then we’re only left with bad choices.
We need to stop the secrecy and the waste.
Bring some Texas sunshine and a little common sense to Washington.
Voice over: John Cornyn, for Texas
John Cornyn voice over: I’m John Cornyn, and I approved this message.

Senator John Cornyn: Creating a More Open Government

During his tenure in the US Senate, Senator Cornyn has established a strong record on open government issues:

  • Authored the landmark Open Government Act of 2007 which made the most significant reforms to the Freedom of Information Act in its history.
  • Cosponsored the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act, creating a single public website to track all non-classified federal funding.
  • Helped pass the Legislative *Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Transparency Act* in the Senate, making it more difficult for government bureaucrats to withhold information from FOIA requests.
