Sorghum

“Sorghum” Script:

John Cornyn voice over: Texans are optimists, but the economy is tough and people are struggling
Partisanship, politicians pointing fingers, negative ads, those don’t help anyone.
We should work together and get back to basics: good schools, strong families, low taxes, and finally make government work again.
Voice over: John Cornyn, for Texas
John Cornyn voice over: I’m John Cornyn, and I approved this message.

During the past year, the national economy has suffered under the weight of excessive energy prices, rising inflation and a mortgage/financial industry crisis. Senator John Cornyn has worked to address these problems in a rational, bipartisan manner. He has advocated for additional domestic energy supplies, including renewable, to relieve our overreliance on imported oil and lower the cost to Texans. He has also pushed for pro-family legislation that starts with low taxes, so everyone can keep more of their money and decide for themselves how to spend it. Sen. Cornyn is also a strong advocate of public schools, and has filed legislation to make certain all key education decisions are made not by Washington bureaucrats, but by parents, teachers and local officials.

Senator Cornyn has compiled an impressive record of bipartisan outreach in his first term in the U.S. Senate. He has also been a consistent force for openness and reform in Washington. He wrote, with Sen. Leahy, the most significant update of federal open government laws in decades. Texas has a rich heritage of straight talk and common sense solutions that stem from the state’s ranching and agricultural roots, particularly the cattle industry. This ad was filmed in a sorghum field in Nueces County, TX., one of many areas that retains that Texas tradition for openness and straightforwardness.
