Never Satisfied with the Status Quo

By Mike Huckabee

Did you or your family decide not to take a summer vacation this year because the cost to drive your car or the cost of an airline ticket has tripled since last year?

Could the $50-60 you likely just spent filling your gas tank have gone towards something more meaningful like dinner with your husband or wife or a good friend?

Have you noticed the price of food and milk and juice is creeping skyward because increased fuel costs are being built into the prices at your local grocery store?

Well I have and I am not satisifed. Now maybe I am asking for too much, but I don't see why we can't get some action out of Washington with a real plan that invests in our long term future.

We have to explore, we have to conserve and we have to pursue all avenues of alternative energy: nuclear, wind, solar, hydrogen, clean coal, biodiesel and biomass. And while we are at it, let's drill here and drill now!

America not only needs some forward thinking on this issue, we also need some real leadership from our elected officials in Washington. That's why I enthusiastically agreed to support and participate in Senator Cornyn's Energy Independence Days.

It's more of the same for Americans if we don't seize this moment now, and finally do something about our energy future. Will we? Or will we hit the snooze button on the alarm and leave it up to our kids and grandkids?

Thankfully this is America and we are great and will always be great, in part, because we are never satisfied with the status quo. It isn't in our makeup to say "okay we are now in a global economy and this is it for us, rising gas prices every year." Instead what I hear from Americans are new ideas and strategies; a thirst for confronting this problem head-on rather than run away from it and push it onto a later generation to solve because the problem seems to big to overcome.

I have said it before and I will say it again here, I believe that energy independence is possible with leadership and action!

That is why I am grateful for Senator Cornyn's willingness to make this an issue he is building his campaign around and his effort to offer solutions to the problems we face today. I urge you to promote this effort to your friends and family not just in Texas but across the country.

Thank you for the opportunity to address your online community and participate today.

Go to my site and see what I have been doing for years. I have been funded and as I try to make better contact with the McCain campaign, they seem to ignore me. WAKE UP Mike!! And all the rest of the over-busy people int he campaign office. I have celebrity faces who we are discussing going public on the USA jobs, economy and ecology efforts! THIS IS HUGE. Let's not waste the opportunity we have here.

I notice that many of the proposals by the dems have everything to do with the policies being introduced by Sen. Obama. It seems to me that the dems are holding up good policy choices at the expense of the america people. I have watched on cspan the total disregard for the common sense solution to the problems we face in this country. They introduce policies that have the opposite effect we need to build the economy. Obama proposals will totally destroy our economy from the bottom up. I have not been fooled by the lack of experience and judgement of this dem. nominee and I have been doing everything I can to stop that from happening.  I will be voting a GOP ticket accross the line this fall. I just wish J. McCain's campaign was more exciting.  Go McCain

Does McCain realize that we have an energy crisis?  He doesn't seem to care!

This is great! Newt, Mike, and John Cornyn together on one website and one issue, and WHAT AN ISSUE! The cost of our energy is bad enough, but our dependency on foreign oil is truly frightening! I still can’t believe we allowed ourselves get into this mess. I have Newt’s “Drill Now, Drill Here, Pay Less” bumper sticker on the right side of my bumper, Mike’s sticker still in the center (place of honor); and news-feed feelers out all over the place from my browser to catch all news from Mike (besides HuckPac & MySpace); and Senator Cornyn, I’m proud to have you as my Senator and am about to make a small donation to your campaign. We need you! Thanks to all of you for your stand and all that you are doing on this crucial issue and so many others!

From the sound of things, it looks like is getting the notion that John McCain is thinking of saying "no thanks" and he's moving to other options.  Of course, that will kill the GOP because Huck's Army has already said it's Huck or bust.  So FairTax and energy are the new call to arms, and John can hide his "Maverick" where the sun don't shine!

How much are you willing to take as free Americans?  Some of our elected officials have chosen to ignore the will of the people and to play politics with our lives.  The current energy crisis is breaking the backs of hard working people.  This is not a Democratic or Republican situation... It is an AMERICAN problem.  We are the wealthiest, most prosperous nation on planet Earth, but that very well may change if we continue to transfer money to foreign nations.  We must act now!!!  The American public demands action.  We have got to start producing our own natural resources.  The blame game has gone on long enough.  The bottom line is it does not matter who is at fault.  All that matters is that we unite as Americans and solve our current problem.  It is our duty as American citizens to send this very serious warning.  We must pull together as one and show the rest of the world why we are so proud to be called an American citizen.

America lost a great opportunity this year when Republicans did not succeed in selecting Mike Huckabee as our presidential candidate.  We need this man, his character, and his ideals in the White House.  But God bless him, he's growing where he has been planted and still working for the causes he believes in whole-heartedly.  Energy independence is so important to our security and our economy - to our way of life.  Rising costs are hurting families like mine (with 6 children, it hits harder) in a big way.  There is something wrong in America when those on the other side of the aisle think more about the landscape than the people who view it.  Yes, let's be good stewards, but we have to do it in such a way that does not make us slaves to our environment.

I love Mike Huckabee. I found this website through Mike's Myspace blog. However I disagree that we should drill off-shore and in the ANWR. It will take years for us to get that oil. In that time period we should have really good alternatives to oil. Hopefully really soon we will all be driving electric cars.

Thank you, Governor Huckabee, for your wise words (as always).  Senator Cornyn, we respect you a great deal, and appreciate your promotion of energy independence.  Perhaps if Americans returned to being more God-dependent many of our other problems would ease.  We need His hand of blessing restored and not removed.

Here's a good idea for an alternative sourse of energy:

Thank you Governor Huckabee for Standing Firm, Standing Strong, and Being Heard! I agree with many others whowish we had better choices for our GOP candidate...YOU in that position would be so much easier to vote my conscience! Praying for you to be our VP choice and can't wait for your Presidential campaign in 2012 to get started! God Bless you!

Yes I two wished we had different Presidental choices.  But Americans helped make it this way with their voting.  Wish it was Huckabee and the Alaskan Governor running.  But the Republican party needs to step up to the plate and become back to being true Republicans.  Too many of them have shifted left and were swayed by those lying do nothing Democrats.  Now it is up to the Republican's in office to help influence all the Dem's they can to let us start drilling and to over throw the Pelosi Power and lift the ban.  It might take awhile to become Energy Independent but if we don't get started now, we will still stay on this freight train to Communist Hell.  That is what the Dem's what.  To make us think and do what they and their Environmentalist buddies, just like a Communist country.  OUr forfathers are turning over in their graves and so is Reagan.

Come on RNC step up, pull yourselves up by the boot strapes and get this Country back to WE THE PEOPLE and the country that we all remembered and love.  USA USA USA USA!!!!!!

I am so grateful for Governor Huckabee standing up - I do wish the primary in Texas would have been different.  We can not depend on the media anymore, we have to research for ourselves and real conservatives must stand up for truth.  Thanks Governor Huckabee!!!

Mike was the only candidate talking about energy independence during the primaries. He was also the only one talking about the economy. He was a step ahead of everyone on the issues that have come to the forefront now.

I say Amen and yes Mike Huckabee I sure wish you had gotten the Republican nomination.  You always have the right attitude about issues that are important to the people.  I say like someone else did hook up with Newt and take it by storm,  I am so tired of having to pick the lesser of 2 evils.  Thank you Governor for your service to our country.  and good luck Senator Cornyn in your ambitious and desperately needed plan!!    Jerry in Ohio

I absolutely agree.  We need to develop alternative energy sources, but at the same time let's DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, PAY LESS.

Way to go Huckabee!  Way to go McCain!

Amen to that and I'm just tearing up because I'm so sad he didn't get the Republican Nomination. :(

I'm thankful Gov. Huckabee has spoken out on this critical issue. We must get off foreign oil. Senator Cornyn thank you for supporting energy independence as well. We must build more oil refineries and do whatever we can to lose foreign oil.

Is it too late for a Newt Gingrich/Mike Huckabee ticket? Lets fix the economy, gas and moral issues in America.

We can only HOPE that this blog might garner more attention than the all-but-DEAD ones over at the RNC's website. The lack of RNC responses over there is sad and pathet

I'm glad to see important and well recognized people like Crnyn and Huckabee are finally looking towards the future. This type of thinking was going on in the 1970's but then price of oil went down and so did these ideas. What needs to be done to ensure that we keep up the momentum on energy independence this time?

Its great that a strong consevative like Gov. Huckabee is supportive of this effort, we need to make this happen now!

That sounds like a good plan.  Explore for oil AND research alternative energy.  It's a win-win plan
