The second-ranking Republican senator said Monday that any replacement plan for Obamacare would cover as many people as the current law does.
Sen. John Cornyn, of Texas, told reporters that the Trump administration could help to shore up any insurer problems in the 2018 individual market. Democratic senators have attacked Republicans for seeking to repeal Obamacare without a replacement and strip health insurance away from millions of people.
However, the goal of any replacement “would be to ensure that those people who are covered now would be covered afterwards,” Cornyn said.
The Senate is voting on a series of amendments Monday to a non-binding budget resolution that would start the repeal process for Obamacare.
