Seafarers International Union Endorses Senator Cornyn for Re-Election

SIU AGLIWD Cites Cornyn’s Integrity and Support of Maritime Jobs

AUSTIN, TX — Today, Texans for Senator John Cornyn announced the endorsement of the Seafarers International Union – Atlantic, Gulf, Lakes and Inland Waters District (SIU AGLIWD), AFL-CIO. The organization represents tens of thousands of professional United States merchant mariners sailing aboard U.S.-flag vessels in deep sea, Great Lakes, and inland trades. SIU was chartered in 1938 and represents the most efficient and well-trained crews in the world.

“When I first met John Cornyn in 2002, he told me he was a conservative who supported good-paying jobs for merchant mariners, and he has never gone back on his word. Throughout his time in the Senate, he has demonstrated the kind of integrity and character that working men and women can count on; standing up for American maritime jobs, strengthening our workforce, and keeping our industry competitive. The senator also understands that as Merchant Mariners we serve in war and peace and he respects the vital role we play in our national defense. That’s the kind of leadership we need more of in Washington.”

— Dean Corgey, Vice President, SIU Gulf Coast Region

“I am sincerely grateful to SIU AGLIWD for their support and for the critical work they do to keep our maritime industry strong. I’m proud to represent the hardworking Texas mariners who help keep commerce moving smoothly along our coasts, ports, and inland waterways. I will continue as I always have to fight for good-paying maritime jobs and ensure our supply chains remain strong and reliable.”

— Senator John Cornyn
