VICTIM’S RIGHTS

As a district judge, Texas Supreme Court justice, Texas Attorney General, and U.S. Senator, John Cornyn has played a critical role in delivering justice to victims, survivors and their loved ones.

Passing the Debbie Smith Reauthorization Act dedicated more resources to state and local law enforcement agencies to help conduct forensic analyses of crime scenes and process untested rape kits. Additionally, Senator Cornyn sponsored the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Reporting (SAFER) Act to further resolve laboratory and storage rape kit backlogs by providing funding to conduct one-year audits of the untested sexual assault evidence in their possession. His Justice Served Act funds the prosecution of cold cases solved by DNA evidence found in backlogged rape cases.

As a father, Senator Cornyn is fiercely protective of children. His PROTECT Our Children Act reauthorizes the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force Program — pulling together 61 coordinated task forces and prosecutorial agencies across the nation to combat online child exploitation.
