Sen. John Cornyn on Tuesday joined dozens of volunteers preparing the annual Raul Jimenez Thanksgiving Dinner.

“Thanksgiving wouldn’t be Thanksgiving without the Raul Jimenez Dinner. Being from San Antonio, I remember this from many years back,” he said.

The late Raul Jimenez established the Thanksgiving Day dinner in 1979 with the goal of feeding 100 of San Antonio’s elderly and less fortunate. Thirty-nine years later, the dinner serves more than 25,000 residents.

The holiday dinner will be served Thursday at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center.

Doors will open at 9 a.m., an all-faith service scheduled for 10 a.m. and the meal will be served at 10:30 a.m.

Anyone interested in volunteering for the event or who would like to make a monetary donation can do so by clicking here.
